Mr Francis Bassey a 54-year-old man, his wife and four children whose modest home in Calabar, Cross River State, was razed by fire, January 3, have sent a Save Our Soul to the governor, Senator Liyel Imoke and public spirited individuals. Bassey, who is squatting with friends, said he has not been himself since the unfortunate incident and does not have money to repair his damaged house.

His words:- “My business has gone down because I can no longer concentrate on my business any more, life has been very difficult for me and my family. I just need assistance to reconstruct my house because I don’t have money to renovate this place I am just a trader and my wife is a teacher”
“My children are staying in my grandmother’s house now because of the holiday, but what happens when the holiday is over. The rain will soon be here, how do we cope? We are not saying they should build us a new house all we are asking for is a little assistance from the government to help erect back our house.
“I am patching up with a friend and my wife is squatting somewhere, it is quite disheartening,  they should please assist me to put this structure back to shape, that is my plea” Bassey  stated.
His wife, Mrs. Bassey, told Niger Delta Voice: “It has been very stressful and more time consuming because we all have to start waking up by 4am again. It is not easy taking these children to school from Palm Street to Navy primary School Ikot Ansa every day. “What we are asking is a little help from the government. We are asking for building material and other items to put our place back in order.
“We have written to State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) but we are still waiting their response.” Request being addressed—SEMA source A source at SEMA however confirmed to Niger Delta Voice that the agency received a request from the family, but said they should exercise patience as the matter was being attended to at the appropriate level.
